Our friend and colleague Nick Laboffe, Software Developer, will celebrate 5 years with MyMediabox next month, so we thought this would be the perfect time to shine the employee spotlight on him. Nick primarily focuses on our newest product, Mediabox-RM for Royalty Management, though he contributes his talents to updating another widely utilized application, Mediabox-PA for Product Approvals. His knowledge, experience and versatility are enormous assets to the Research and Development team. Read on to find out more about Nick outside of MyMediabox.
1. Most embarrassing moment?
I once had a series of presentations to give and came prepared for the wrong one. Fortunately I knew the topic well. I had a moment of panic but ultimately looked down, up, smiled and then winged it. I didn’t have a PowerPoint presentation to follow so the organization and structure were lacking, but I think I still impressed them.
2. Funniest childhood nickname and why?
Nick Nick. You had to say my name twice to get my attention.
3. If you could be a member of any TV-sitcom family, which would it be?
The Robinsons, Lost In Space.
4. If you could change one thing about your upbringing, what would it be?
Pick something and focus on getting good at it.
5. Would you rather $2million right now or $4000 every week?
$4000 every week.
6. Name one short-term goal?
Become proficient in a Machine Learning sub-domain such as Computer Vision or Adaptive Learning.
7. If you could kill off any character from a current television show, who would it be?
Brooklyn Nine-Nine: Detective Keith Pembroke (a.k.a. The Vulture)
8. What is your motto or personal mantra?
Be Smart. Be tough.
9. What is your biggest achievement? – personal or professional
2017 Top 10 Finisher of the Badwater 135 Mile Ultramarathon in Death Valley, CA. My performance in this race was a culmination of many years of hard work.
10. If you could switch jobs with someone, who would it be?
Geoffrey Hinton.
11. If you were 80 years old, what advice would you give your grandchildren?
Never stop learning. Strive to be a champion.
